Another year and another very impressive team effort from Farleigh saw them defend their title for the fourth year in a row, for the second time!
Well done Bryan and all the team.
On Friday, we had our Men’s Final Day held at Farleigh. A regular league celebration (yes, even when Farleigh win), where each of the 5 league clubs bring along 18 players for a ‘friendly’ 5ball scramble for some banter, iffy golf… food and lots of beers.
A slight swerve from tradition as it was supposedly Surrey National’s turn to host. However as that club was unable to accommodate us for the day, Farleigh stepped up. Surrey National’s team captain Graham Loveless was still able to manage the day, ably supported by Farleigh’s Bryan, and between them they somehow ensured the weather behaved to make the day go very smoothly.
As Graham mentioned as he awarded the day’s winners, a huge, huge thanks to Farleigh’s club management, bar staff, pro shop and greenkeepers who all contributed to a fantastic finals day. Course was in great nick, greens very good and presentation top notch.
This year, Woldingham Scott and SN’s Graham did a fantastic collective job negotiating with the Altonwood Group to ensure we were even able to play in the league this year… so more thanks to Graham, Scott and all the team captains who had to manage the change in match arrangements this year. We got there in the end.
After drinks in the sunshine, we enjoyed the meal and Graham awarded prizes for day.
Ripping the mic out of Graham’s sweaty hands, League Chairman Pete Crowe was then able to so say a few words to all, extending thanks to our hosts Farleigh and the team captains this year who all contributed to yet another successful league. Well done Pete and your stalwart stewardship.
We then came to the main award and Pete was able to award Farleigh with their fourth consecutive league title and the ‘doorstop’ trophy was handed over to Farleigh’s Bryan Pitt and the 2024 title. Huge congratulations to Bryan et al. yet another worthy win! We managed to avoid the tears as Bryan nearly got a bit emotional, before the team were dragged out for the traditional team photo. Alex is near year’s team Captain… good luck lifting him on your shoulders! Maybe that is an incentive for us to all give them a run for it next year.
Happy reading for some, less so for others but here is the link to the roll of honour page of past League winners.
So a cracking finals day, another great year (although a little tough for some of us), and roll on 2025.
Oh and a final photo… if nothing else for my benefit as for many years I didn’t think Farleigh got any sunshine… it always seems to be howling wind and horizontal rain!
